1. Teams and Players

  • Two teams, each with 11 players (including 1 goalkeeper).

  • A team must have at least 7 players to continue the game.

2. Match Duration

  • Standard match: 90 minutes, divided into two 45-minute halves.

  • Half-time break: 15 minutes.

  • Extra time or penalty shootouts may occur in knockout stages if the score is tied.

3. Objective

  • Score more goals than the opponent by getting the ball into their net.

4. Starting and Restarting Play

  • Kick-off starts the game and restarts after a goal or at the beginning of halves.

  • Other restarts: throw-ins, goal kicks, corner kicks, and free kicks.

5. Offside Rule

  • A player is offside if they are nearer to the opponent’s goal than both the ball and the second-last defender when the ball is played to them, unless they are in their own half.

  • No offside on goal kicks, throw-ins, or corner kicks.

6. Fouls and Misconduct

  • Fouls include kicking, tripping, pushing, handball, etc.

  • Results in a free kick, penalty kick, or card:

    • Yellow card: warning.

    • Red card: player is sent off (team plays with fewer players).

7. Free Kicks and Penalties

  • Direct free kick: can score directly.

  • Indirect free kick: must touch another player before scoring.

  • Penalty kick: awarded for fouls inside the penalty box.

8. Throw-ins

  • Taken when the ball goes over the sideline. Thrown in by hands, both feet on the ground.

9. Goal Kicks and Corner Kicks

  • Goal kick: when the attacking team sends the ball over the defending team’s goal line.

  • Corner kick: when the defending team sends it out over their own goal line.

10. Winning the Game

  • The team with the most goals at full-time wins.

  • A draw is possible unless it’s a knockout match (then extra time/penalties are used).
