Two teams, each with 11 players (including 1 goalkeeper).
A team must have at least 7 players to continue the game.
Standard match: 90 minutes, divided into two 45-minute halves.
Half-time break: 15 minutes.
Extra time or penalty shootouts may occur in knockout stages if the score is tied.
Score more goals than the opponent by getting the ball into their net.
Kick-off starts the game and restarts after a goal or at the beginning of halves.
Other restarts: throw-ins, goal kicks, corner kicks, and free kicks.
A player is offside if they are nearer to the opponent’s goal than both the ball and the second-last defender when the ball is played to them, unless they are in their own half.
No offside on goal kicks, throw-ins, or corner kicks.
Fouls include kicking, tripping, pushing, handball, etc.
Results in a free kick, penalty kick, or card:
Yellow card: warning.
Red card: player is sent off (team plays with fewer players).
Direct free kick: can score directly.
Indirect free kick: must touch another player before scoring.
Penalty kick: awarded for fouls inside the penalty box.
Taken when the ball goes over the sideline. Thrown in by hands, both feet on the ground.
Goal kick: when the attacking team sends the ball over the defending team’s goal line.
Corner kick: when the defending team sends it out over their own goal line.
The team with the most goals at full-time wins.
A draw is possible unless it’s a knockout match (then extra time/penalties are used).
